Ealing Broadway - Slough - Reading - Swindon - Westbury - Frome - Taunton - Plymouth - Liskeard - Lostwithiel - Fowey - Lostwithiel - Par - Luxulyan - Bugle - Newquay
66248 to Plymouth

Despite reports of a China Clay Freight train coming off the rails at St Blazey a couple of weeks previous to this tour, and potentially jeopardising it Network Rail did their bit and got the line re-opened and passed for the trip. On the outward journey we suffered a TPWS Fault at Dawlish Warren and a pathing stop was taken at Totnes. D1015 works a Pathfinder Tours Charter from Ealing Broadway visiting Carne Point and Newquay reliving the Western China Clay Railtour from 1976. John Vaughan who ran RPPR all those years ago was also present on the tour and the Original Headboard from the China Clay tour was used on D1015 was a prize in the DTG Raffle.

After about an hour and a half fuel break at Plymouth, 66248 was used as assistant engine for the run to Carne Point and Newquay, from Fowey D1015 then took the train to Newquay taking the equivalent of load 17 (700 Tons) over Luxulyan Bank from a 5 mph start to 14 mph working flat out for 25 minutes!!

On the run down we were diverted onto the fast line at Slough then after Sonning put back on the slow line, we remained on the slow line until Didcot to let a HST pass, making us arrive at Westbury 15 minutes late however D1015 soon made up time taking speeds up to 90 mph several times and averaged 87.8 mph between Castle Cary and Taunton, the climb to Whiteball Summit was acheived at a minimum of 58mph, we approached Exeter running 6 minutes early! a superb run along the seawall and we were quickly into Paignton and after a few minutes set off to Kingswear arriving 2 minutes early.

Refuelling took place at at Leeds Neville Hill, the first visit of a Wizzo since D1013 'Western Ranger' worked a Swansea to Leeds service train throughout in January 1977.
